Motion 9-11-07 Chauncey St. 4-Way Stop

TO:                 Mayor William F. Martin, Jr.

                                    And

Members of the Lowell City Council

FROM:           Bernard F. Lynch, City Manager

DATE:            September 20, 2007

SUBJECT:     MOTION OF 9/11/07 BY COUNCILOR RITA MERCIER

CITY COUNCIL REQUEST THE CITY MANAGER HAVE THE PROPER VOTE DRAWN AND THE PROPER DEPARTMENT INSTALL A FOUR-WAY STOP ON CHAUNCEY AVENUE

Jeff Gomes, Transportation Engineer has visited the site in question and made some conclusions.  The intersection of D Street and Chauncey Avenue is an offset four-way intersection, much like a few of the intersections in the Belvidere neighborhood and other locations.  The City has installed stop signs at intersections similar to this location due to the awkward nature of the geometry and limited sight distance.

Therefore, a 60-day trial for stop signs on D Street at Chauncey Avenue will be before the City Council September 25, 2007.
