Motion-4-3-07-Inoperable Meters

TO: Mayor William F. Martin, Jr.

And

Members of the Lowell City Council

FROM: Bernard F. Lynch, City Manager

DATE: April 4, 2007

RE: Council Motion of 4/3/07 by Councillor Caulfield

“Request the City Manager have the proper department address the inoperable meters on lower Middlesex Street.”

Regarding the above mentioned motion, I have been in contact with Chuck Carney, Parking Director for the City of Lowell. Chuck stated that while reviewing this motion, he went to Middlesex Street and met with the owner of the Majestic Barber Shop, who was the person who complained. The owner thought that the meters were broken because all of his customers were only able to get 15 minutes on the meters, but I explained to him that those specific meters were only 15 minute meters. He requested that 30 minute meters be installed and Chuck told him that we would do that.

The Parking Department reviews broken meter reports on a daily basis and any meters that are broken are fixed the same day.

If you have any questions regarding this, please let me know. Thank you.
