RE:                   Council Motion of 3/13/07 by Mayor Bill Martin

“Request the City Manager investigates the ownership of the Clark Cemetery on Alcott Street and develop a maintenance plan.”

Please be advised that I have been in contact with Susan LeMay, Assessor as well as Tom Bellegarde, Parks & Recreation, regarding the above mentioned motion.  Susan stated that the cemetery, which is often referred to as Clark’s Cemetery at 152 Alcott is actually Hunt Cemetery, however, it is said that the Clark’s are buried there.  The owners on record are Charles Hood and Robert G. Bartlett; however the mailing address is 152 Alcott Street, the address of the cemetery.  There is no affidavit of address on file and the Assessors Office has no further information on a contact number.  The property is exempt.

Tom Bellegarde has stated that over the past ten years the Parks & Recreation Department, neighborhood residents and various volunteer groups would schedule clean up dates to address the maintenance conditions at the cemetery.  The City does not provide services on a regular basis nor is there any knew funding sources, ie, perpetual care connected with this privately owned cemetery.

I hope this information is helpful to you.  If you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Thank you.
