Motion 09.25.07 Woburn and Grafton

TO:                 Mayor William F. Martin, Jr.

                                    And

Members of the Lowell City Council

FROM:           Bernard F. Lynch, City Manager

DATE:            October 12, 2007

SUBJECT:     MOTION OF 9/25/07 BY COUNCILOR CAULFIELD

REQUEST THE CITY MANAGER HAVE THE PROPER DEPARTMENT PLACE A CROSSWALK AT GRAFTON/WOBURN STREET

I have been in contact with Jeff Gomes, Transportation Engineer regarding the placement of a cross walk at Grafton and Woburn St.  After evaluating the location through a site visit he has made the following conclusions.  To be able to install a new crosswalk at any location, it must be ADA accessible.  ADA accessibility requires curb ramps on either side of the proposed crosswalk.  After field investigation, it was concluded that there are no curb ramps in the vicinity of Woburn Street and Grafton Street.  Therefore, it is not possible to install a crosswalk at this time.

Please contact me with any questions regarding the above-mentioned motion.  Thank you.
