RE:     Edward J. Early, Jr. Parking Garage Update

Dear Mayor Caulfield and Members of the City Council:

We are pleased to inform you that the new Edward J. Early, Jr. Parking Garage on Middlesex Street is expected to open for public parking next week.  The final hurdle for the project before it can open is the State elevator inspection, which is scheduled for 12:00 noon on Friday, March 14, 2008.  We would like to acknowledge D.J. Corcoran in Senator Panagiotakos’ Office for his assistance in coordinating the time for the elevator inspection.  Assuming that the elevator passes inspection as expected, the building should receive its certificate of occupancy and open for parking on Monday, March 17, 2008.

While the public is expected to be allowed to park beginning on Monday, there are still a number of punch list items that the contractor will need to address over the coming weeks.  As a result, we will be scheduling a grand opening event in mid-April once the punch list is substantially complete.

Should you have any questions about this project please do not hesitate to contact Adam Baacke at DPD (978-446-7200) or me.

Sincerely,

Bernard F. Lynch

City Manager
