Hunts Falls Bridge Night Detour March 28th through April 2nd
Traffic on the Route 38/110 (Hunts Falls) bridge over the Merrimack River in Lowell will be detoured nightly starting 8:00PM on Sunday night until 5:00AM Monday morning, continuing nightly through Friday morning, as construction crews erect structural steel on the bridge. The northbound travel lane across the bridge will be closed during the overnight hours to complete this work. For safety reasons, this work will also require periodic, short-term closures of the southbound travel lane across the bridge as sections of the structural steel are actually placed. Police details will be positioned on each end of the bridge to assist with direction of traffic through the detour and work zone.
Starting Sunday night, northbound drivers should follow the posted detour route from Route 38/110 (Nesmith St.), left at East Merrimack St., right at Bridge St., over the Central Bridge and onto the VFW Highway (Route 38), and continue to their destinations as indicated below.
To Route 110 Eastbound: Take a right on Route 38 and continue along the VFW Highway as it becomes Route 110.
To Route 38 Northbound: Take a left on Route 38
The work is part of a $12.1 million project to rehabilitate three bridges in Lowell and is funded through the Patrick-Murray Administration's historic Accelerated Bridge Program, a $3 billion recovery effort to reduce the Commonwealth's backlog of structurally-deficient bridges. MIG Corporation, Inc. of Acton is the contractor for this project.
Temporary signs and Variable Message (VMS) Signs will alert drivers to the changes and detour route. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation apologizes for any inconvenience that may arise from the imposition of this detour.
