World Series Trophy comes to Lowell!
On Friday (12/03/04) the Boston Red Sox sent the World Series trophy to Lowell to give the loyal fans in the area an up close view. After traveling around New England, the trophy has finally stopped in Lowell.
JFK Plaza was filled with nearly 1,000 Sox fans. They cheered wildly when the trophy was revealed. The Red Sox team mascot, Wally the Green Monster was present and pumped up the crowd with the song "We Are The Champions" blaring from the loud speakers.
Fans got to pose for pictures with the trophy after a short ceremony. The ceremony featured some brief speeches by Mayor Armand Mercier, State Sen. Steven Panagiotakos, Lowell Spinners owners Joann and Drew Weber, and Red Sox Senior Vice President of Fenway Affairs Larry Cancro.
