The Division of Development Services exists to provide a one-stop center for land-use, permitting and code enforcement activities in the City.  We are committed to protecting and preserving public safety, security and quiet enjoyment of the residents through the review and enforcement of building and sanitary codes, and the evaluation of land-development and use proposals for adherence to the goals and objectives of the City's Master Plan and Zoning Code.

Notice of Public Hearing

The Board of Health will be holding a public hearing on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, 6PM in the Mayor's Reception Room to hear all interested parties relative to a proposed regulation revision regarding the Regulation and Licensing of Dumpsters.  The revision will allow exclusion of regular household trash containers up to 100 gallons from the regulation.

Did You Know?

Exterior means of egress such as fire escapes and outside stairs are required to be maintained, kept free of snow and ice, and inspected and certified every five years. 

MA State Building Code Section 1001.3.1 and 1001.3.2 has specific requirements for buildings with exterior stairs and fire escapes to ensure they remain safe and functional in case of emergencies.  It is the property owner's responsibility to ensure their fire escapes and exterior stairs are compliant with the Building Code.

Code enforcement officials from Development Services and the Fire Department are working to identify exterior egresses and contact property owners to confirm compliance.
