Health Inspections Division
The Sanitary Code Division is comprised of nine (9) Sanitary Code/Health Inspectors. There is a full-time senior inspector, seven (7) full time and one part-time inspector. This division is responsible for the following:
- The promotion of sanitary living conditions and the protection of the environment from damage and pollution;
- Enforcement of the State Sanitary Code inclusive of:
- Minimum Standards of Fitness for Human Habitation
- Minimum Standards for Food Service Establishments:
- Minimum Standards for Swimming Pools and Beaches.
Inspectors conduct bi-annual inspections of each food establishment in the City of Lowell inclusive of restaurants, school cafeterias, variety stores, nursing home and hospital cafeterias. Inspectors respond to complaints received from the public.
In addition to the State Public Health Laws and Regulations above Sanitary Code inspectors enforce City Ordinances as well as Board of Health Regulations including Dumpster Regulations, Tobacco Regulations, Massage, Tanning and Body Art Regulations, Inspection of Septic trucks, Mobile Food Trucks and Ice Cream trucks as well as Rental Housing.
Recreational camps, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, fairs and festivals all fall under the jurisdiction of the Sanitary Code Division.
