In an effort to understand and improve the health needs of our Lowell residents, a Community Health Nurse Educator has been designated to reach out and work with the private and public sectors of Lowell and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

The Community Health Nurse Educator also works closely with the Communicable Disease Control Nurse, Tuberculosis Team, as well as the School Health Division.  This is accomplished with education presentations and various public immunization clinics as needed.

The Nurse Educator acts as a liaison to build and strengthen communication and working relationships within the community in order to promote public health.

Building strong partnerships in our community prepares us to develop a realistic approach to an Emergency Preparedness Response in the event of a natural disaster, bioterroristic event, radiological or chemical incident and unusual disease outbreaks within our community.

Other services provided include:

• Participation on Task Forces in the community
• Referrals system to primary care, health insurance or other clinics
  in the community
• Immunization Record review in accordance with Massachusetts General Law Chapter  (M.G.L. c.111, and c.76, and 105 CMR 220.000)
• Lead Poisoning Prevention education and screening of children below the age of 6
