Concord River Greenway

The City of Lowell was recently awarded a grant from the Division of Conservation and Recreation through the Route 3 Open Space Acquisition Grant fund to purchase a 3.17 acre parcel currently owned by Guilford Transportation. The parcel runs between the Concord River and the Lowell Cemetery. It contains an abandoned railroad right of way, which Guilford Railroad has expressed an interest in selling to the city. The parcel is currently being used by the Lowell Parks and Conservation Trust for launching their boats during their white water rafting programs. As it stands, the site has little or no improvement needs to create a neighborhood trail. The City also has had discussions with other business owners along the Concord River to acquire easements to pass through their properties. To date, the property owners have been positive and supportive of the neighborhood trail idea. Within the next several months, the City hopes to issue requests for bids for the design of the project.
